ACGA Decides to Maintain February 2009 Annuity Rates
Right on time, the American Council on Gift Annuities announced that it plans to continue with the rates it recommended beginning February 2009. I think it's very stabilizing news. There's been so much in the press about charitable gift annuities lately, it's nice to see a non-event. It also shows that the issue of how secure gift annuities are, for both the nonprofit and the donor, is something that is looked at very seriously and very regularly. It's about responsibility - to our donors - to our nonprofits - and the mission important to both. Things are a little trickier now because of the low IRS discount rates so those of us used to just running the numbers on PG Calc or Crescendo (or even just approximating for prospects) now have to look before we leap (or speak) but I'm still a big fan of charitable gift annuity programs.

I've heard that the CGA rates, which are currently pretty strong, may change as of this September. When we will know the new rates for CGAs and will they continue to be a good investment for philanthropically inclined people?

After everything that's happened in our economy and the nonprofit community, I don't feel comfortable saying never; I've learned anything can happen. But I doubt if we'll see a rate change in September unless something else unforseen takes place. Usually there's some indication if a rate change is coming but ACGA only recently announced they are staying with the same rates as of July 1st.

A video of the conversation with the American Council on Gift Annuities I have found on the web. And he did not mention that the CGA rates change this September.
